CMSHRM - Finance for the Non-Finance HR by Helen Moser

This course will cover an overview of the financial statements and the role of accounting in business.  It will then discuss the key financial metrics that affect a firm’s valuation and how the HR function plays into company value.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the 3 basic financial statements and their purpose
  • Understand the role of the accountant in both internal and external reporting
  • Describe the drivers of firm value
  • Discuss how risk and return affect firm value
  • Define the role of the HR manager in contributing to firm value
Speaker Information:

Helen found a passion for finance during her 5-year stint with the U.S. Army.  Post-Army, she earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Finance.  She spent several years in the banking industry, working her way up from Credit Analyst to CFO.

She began teaching part-time during her career in banking and began teaching full-time in 2004.  She has been teaching at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota for ten years, and is heavily involved in the MBA Program.  Her passion for finance, investing and real estate fuel her energy in class.
